Aromatherapy
Aromatherapy uses essential oils combined with massage to improve overall mental and physical wellbeing and is an especially effective treatment for stress related problems and a variety of chronic conditions. Aromatherapy combines the physical and emotional effects of gentle massage with the medical and psychotherapeutic properties of essential oils. It stimulates the immune system, strengthens resistance to disease and helps to combat infections. Aromatherapy is especially helpful for women's problems - PMS, menopausal distress, it aids digestion and optimises the functioning of respiratory system. Aromatherapy is being increasingly recommended by the medical community, certain oils have been scientifically confirmed as being antibacterial, antiviral, antifungal, anti-inflammatory, anxiolytic (reduces anxiety), antispasmodic and antioxidant.
CranioSacral Therapy
CranioSacral Therapy is a gentle, yet powerful form of hands-on healing work that supports the body's innate healing wisdom. Using very light pressure Cranio-Sacral releases, that feel delicate yet deep, are gently encouraged rather than abruptly manipulated. It can bring on a feeling of calm and relaxation and is especially helpful to babies, the elderly and those with emotional stress, depression or addictions.
Holistic Massage
Holistic massage is also called Swedish massage, it is the therapeutic application of touch using a range of movements or strokes upon the skin, muscles and joints. Massage therapy not only provides relaxation and relief to muscle strain and fatigue it has significant benefits for all the body's essential systems. Massage can help improve the circulatory system, boost immunity, improve skin and muscle tone, reduce pain, stimulate the release of endorphins (the 'feel good' chemicals), reduce the levels of stress hormones, improve digestive function, improve breathing and improve poor sleep and mental wellbeing. What's not to like?
Indian Head Massage
Indian Head Massage, derived from the ancient Ayurvedic healing system, is a therapeutic seated massage of the shoulders, neck, scalp & face. It relieves neck, back and shoulder pain, headaches, sinusitis, anxiety, insomnia and eyestrain. Indian Head Massage also stimulates the lymphatic drainage to the head, neck, scalp, face and shoulder area, it boosts circulation to the area which improves alertness and concentration and may promote hair growth. As it can be done with or without oils, and with the client fully dressed, it is a great pick-me-up in the middle of a stressful week, or as a way to look glowing and fabulous before a night out.
Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD)
MLD works on the Lymphatic system which is where the body rids itself of waste materials and produces cells for the immune system. MLD aids in the clearing of these waste materials and toxins and encourages the immune system to optimum function. It is very effective for conditions effecting fluid retention and swelling such as arthritis, sinus problems and injuries and is a very useful adjunct to Physiotherapy. It can be used to help in chronic conditions such as ME and MS and is often recommended by surgeons to aid in post-operative healing. It is considered essential in the treatment of oedema (swelling as a symptom of disease) and plays an important role when treating lymphoedema which is a common side effect of surgery, radiation treatment and injury.
Myofascial Release (MFR)
MFR focuses on the tissue called the fascia that surrounds, supports and binds the muscles, bones and internal organs. Injury, stress, poor posture and the forces of gravity and time cause restrictions and loss of elasticity in this fascia and this in turn leads to chronic pain, poor posture and restricted movement. Myofascial Release is an excellent tool for encouraging the body back into balance, alleviating pain and restoring optimum function. It is also highly recommended for helping to loosen scar tissue.
Reflexology
Reflexology involves massaging and applying pressure to the feet and hands at specific reflex points that are believed to correlate to the different systems in the body. Reflexologists will look for signs of imbalance in the body and endeavour to stimulate underactive areas and calm over active ones. Reflexology can help alleviate stress, reduce pain, encourage the immune system, balance hormones and help the digestive system. It is currently receiving a lot of attention in the treatment of infertility.
Shiatsu
Shiatsu is an ancient Japanese form of body work that works with acupressure points to create balance within the body. In Shiatsu the practitioner uses their hands, elbows, knees and feet to apply pressure to the meridian energy lines in the body. Stimulation of the acupressure points combined with stretches and rotations of the limbs helps to release blocked energy or areas of tension and strengthen and deeply relax the body. Shiatsu encompasses the whole person by addressing the physical, emotional and spiritual aspects of a being. It is primarily a preventative medicine which helps to maintain good health, vitality and stamina yet can be effective in helping with a wide range of disorders and chronic conditions. Shiatsu usually leaves one feeling deeply relaxed, energised and more able to cope with stress.
Sports Massage
You don't need to be an athlete to benefit from Sports massage! It's great for office workers, mums and anyone who suffers from the aches and pains of daily life and stressful living. It is centred more closely on the musculo-skeletal system and uses therapeutic massage techniques to help in the recovery from injuries, correcting chronic muscle and/or joint imbalances and relieving pain associated with many illnesses and conditions. Sports massage requires a comprehensive understanding of anatomy and the treatment often includes recommendations for home care, exercises and stretches.
